On September 10, 2025, Dr. Rosalia Emma, researcher at CoEHAR, took part in the Annual Congress of the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SIB), held in Palermo from September 10 to 12.
The event was one of the most important scientific gatherings of the year, with numbers that reflect the vitality of research in the field: 493 registered participants, 21 invited speakers, 370 submitted abstracts, 12 selected short talks, 352 posters, along with 31 sponsors and 17 exhibitors.
During the poster session on September 11, Dr. Emma presented her work entitled: “Effect of Electronic Cigarette Aerosols on Cisplatin Resistance in Head and Neck Cancer Cells: a Collaborative Replication Study.”
The poster illustrated the results of the multicenter REPLICA study, promoted by CoEHAR.
The research focused on the effects of electronic cigarette aerosols on cisplatin resistance in head and neck cancer cells. “The study shows,” explained Dr. Emma, “that in the experimental setting analyzed, exposure to aerosols did not alter drug resistance. This provides a more solid basis for validating previous preclinical findings, refining risk assessment strategies, and promoting transparency and reliability in scientific research.”
With this participation, CoEHAR once again contributed to an international scientific forum, promoting both the methodological quality and the social impact of its research.
